A study plan that rebalances as you improve.

The detail

What actually happens, step by step

We keep the explanations plain on purpose. If a term still looks like jargon, jump to the glossary. For pricing after the free diagnostic, see GateAI Pro.

Step 1

Create a free account

Sign up with your email or Google. It takes under a minute, and there is no credit card and no trial clock — nothing expires.

Your reports need a home. An account keeps your diagnostic, attempt history, and study plan attached to you — and only you. You can read how we handle that data in our Privacy Policy and Security page.

  • Email or Google sign-in
  • No credit card
  • Free, forever

Step 2

Take the 20-minute GATE CS diagnostic

Pick the free diagnostic from the exam catalog and take it in one sitting, like the real paper. Twenty minutes, the same three formats — MCQ, MSQ, and NAT — and GATE CS’s marking scheme, including negative marks on MCQs.

Why match the real exam? Because a practice score only means anything if the difficulty and the marking mean the same thing they will on exam day. Every question is tagged by subject, topic, and difficulty, and written to match the style of past GATE CS papers.

  • MCQ, MSQ, and NAT — the three real GATE CS formats
  • GATE CS-style marking, with negative marks on MCQs
  • One sitting, no pauses — like exam day
  • Difficulty tagged to the GATE CS pattern

Step 3

More than a score — how you answered

While you answer, the system quietly records how you work: how long each question took, and how confident you felt on every answer. Your score is one number. The way you reached it is a pattern.

That pattern catches the things a mark alone hides — overconfident guesses, questions you solve slowly but correctly (the ones that fall apart under time pressure), and topics you quietly skip.

This is where GateAI stops being a score engine and starts being a diagnostic.

Step 4

Get your weakness map and report

About five to ten minutes after you finish — sometimes sooner — your report is ready. It maps your accuracy across the subjects you attempted and marks the rest as unattempted, so “weak” stops being a feeling and becomes a list.

The report also shows how long questions took, where your confidence matched your correctness, and a predicted rank band: a range mapped from your score percentage, not a fake-precise All-India Rank. An AI reads the whole pattern — answers, time, confidence — and writes it up for you.

  • Accuracy and weakness mapped for every subject you attempted
  • Confidence versus correctness — overconfidence made visible
  • Rank band estimated from your score percentage (an estimate, not a guarantee)
  • Unattempted subjects marked clearly, so you know what is missing

Your weakness map and report stay yours on the free plan, forever.

Step 5

Follow a plan that rebalances as you improve

On Pro, your attempts turn into a study plan that says what to work on next. As you take more full-length tests, the plan rebalances around your new numbers. It is built from your data — not a generic syllabus checklist. See Pro pricing and inclusions if you want full-length practice after the free baseline.

  • Free: your weakness map plus basic score and topic breakdown, kept forever
  • Pro: 10 full-length tests, deeper insights, and the weakness-targeted plan

How we measure

Built for GATE CS difficulty, not random quizzes

Trust the map only if you trust the measurement. Here is how the diagnostic is designed — calibrated papers, real formats, faculty review, and process signals beyond a single percentage.

  • Calibrated against 15 years of GATE CS papers

Questions are tagged by subject, topic, difficulty, and past-paper pattern so difficulty is representative of the real exam — not a random quiz dump.

  • Real exam formats and marking

MCQ, MSQ, and NAT with GATE CS-style negative marking on MCQs. A score here is meant to mean the same kind of thing a score on exam day means.

  • Faculty-reviewed question bank

Machine-generated variants are checked by CS subject faculty before they enter the pool. No scraped, shuffled question dumps.

  • Process signals, not just marks

Time-per-question and confidence-vs-correctness reveal mark leaks that a single percentage hides — overconfidence, time sinks, and quiet topic avoidance.

  • 15 yrsof past GATE CS papers informing calibration
  • 12CS subjects tracked in your weakness map
  • 3answer formats with GATE-style marking
  • 20 mindiagnostic sitting before your report pipeline runs

Fit check

Who GateAI is for (and who it is not)

Clear scope is part of being honest. GateAI is a GATE Computer Science practice diagnostic — not a promise of a specific rank and not a substitute for official GATE authorities.

A good fit if you

  • GATE Computer Science aspirants who want to know which topics leak marks
  • Students tired of mock scores without a clear next action
  • Anyone who wants a free baseline before paying for full-length practice

Not the right tool if you

  • Other GATE streams (ME, EE, CE, etc.) — GateAI is GATE CS only for now
  • People looking for a guaranteed rank or official IIT scorecard substitute
  • Passive video courses with no timed practice under real marking rules

Independent practice tool. GATE is conducted by the IITs; reported ranks are best estimates, not guarantees. For account, billing, or data questions, email support@trygateai.com or use Contact. Policies: Privacy, Terms, Security.

Words we use, explained

The terms, in plain language

The product is honest about its mechanics. Here is what the loaded words actually mean on GateAI.

Weakness map

A topic-by-topic view of where you lose marks, sorted by how much each topic costs you — so “weak” becomes a prioritized list, not a vague feeling.

Calibrated

Every question is tagged with a difficulty level and written to match the style of real GATE CS papers — not pulled from a random pool.

Negative marking

On MCQs, a wrong answer carries a small penalty, exactly as on the real paper. MSQ and NAT carry no penalty for a wrong answer.

Confidence vs. accuracy

We compare how sure you were with whether you were right, so overconfidence is caught before it costs you marks on exam day.

Rank band

An estimated range for your GATE CS rank, mapped from your score percentage. A range — not a fake-precise number, and never a guarantee.

MCQ · MSQ · NAT

The three GATE CS question formats: single-choice, multi-select, and numeric-answer types used on the official paper.

Free vs. Pro

What each plan actually includes

The diagnostic and your weakness map are always free. Pro is a one-time unlock for full-length practice and the weakness-targeted plan — details and price on the Pro page.

Fair questions, straight answers

Still wondering how GateAI works?

Straight answers about the diagnostic, rank bands, free vs Pro, and privacy. If something is still unclear, contact us.

How does GateAI work in simple terms?

You create a free account, take a 20-minute GATE CS diagnostic under real formats and marking, then receive a topic-wise weakness map built from accuracy, time, and confidence. On Pro, full-length tests and a prep plan rebalance as your results change.

How is this different from a mock test series?

A mock test mainly returns a score. The GateAI diagnostic is built to explain the score: which subjects and topics lost you marks, how long questions took, and where confidence and accuracy disagreed. A mock measures once; the diagnostic measures and points at what to fix next.

Will one test really predict my GATE rank?

It estimates a rank band from your score percentage and shows that it is an estimate — not a guaranteed All-India Rank. Take more tests as you prepare and the band can narrow. Rank bands are independent practice estimates, not official IIT results.

What happens after the free diagnostic?

You keep your weakness map and report free, forever. If you want full-length tests, deeper insights, and a weakness-targeted plan, that is GateAI Pro — a one-time unlock in Indian Rupees. The diagnostic itself never costs anything.

Do I need to enter card details to start?

No. No card and no paywall before the free test. You see your weakness map before you spend a rupee.

Is the diagnostic as hard as the real GATE CS exam?

It is designed to be. Questions are calibrated against years of GATE CS papers, use MCQ, MSQ, and NAT formats, and follow GATE-style negative marking on MCQs so difficulty and scoring stay comparable to the real paper.

Does GateAI cover streams other than GATE CS?

No. GateAI is built only for GATE Computer Science today — question bank, scoring, rank bands, and plans are CS-specific. Other GATE papers are not offered yet.

How long until my report is ready?

The diagnostic sitting is about 20 minutes. Your detailed report and weakness map usually appear within about five to ten minutes after you finish — sometimes sooner — once analysis completes.

Who builds and reviews the questions?

The bank is calibrated to past GATE CS patterns. Machine-generated variants are faculty-reviewed by CS subject reviewers before they enter the pool, rather than scraped and reshuffled from random sources.

Is my attempt data private?

Your diagnostic, history, and study plan are tied to your account. We use analytics and AI processors to run and improve the product; see the Privacy Policy for collectors and rights, and Contact support for account or data questions.
